Our Mission

The Junior League of Youngstown, affiliated with the Association of Junior Leagues International, is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism and to improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

WHO: The Association of Junior Leagues International has 290 Leagues in four countries with 171,000 members. The Junior League of Youngstown invites all women over the age of  21 years who have an interest in volunteering in their community.
The Junior League of Youngstown seeks to develop a membership that is representative of the metropolitan area we serve. Our organization reaches out to young women of all races, religions and national origins who are interested in and dedicated to volunteerism.

WHAT: Membership offers women the opportunity to expand and develop their leadership capabilities and to work with other dedicated women for the benefit of the Youngstown community. The Junior League of Youngstown has a membership of approximately 400 members.

WHEN:

Our calendar year begins in September and ends in May. The Junior League of Youngstown administration and certain projects operate throughout the year, however. A Candidate’s Workshop for women interested in seeking additional information is held in April of each year. Contact the Junior League office for details.
The Provisional year begins upon receipt of annual dues no later than June 15 and a commitment to the one-year Provisional course training.  Contact the Junior League office for details.

WHY:   Our projects positively impact the community and have been doing so since 1935. Major community projects are still serving our community today. Grants are distributed to various organizations that meet the criteria of Junior League of Youngstown grant-giving standards.

HOW: We train volunteers. Through effective action and leadership of these volunteers, we are able to identify and serve our community needs through research and substantial on-going and done-in-a-day projects.

COST: $184 annually for provisional, actives and preferred active status.

CONTACT: The Junior League of Youngstown office at (330)743-3200 or email info@jlyoungstown.org.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU: Satisfaction of making a difference in someone’s life and your community. Extensive training which develops leadership skills applicable to all areas of life. Personal goals will be reached through a variety of hands-on project work and high-level networking which could lead to life-long friends.
